tib/tim @ Antimatter this Saturday
Thursday, September 28th, 2006One last reminder about my video at Antimatter this Saturday. This is Box/This is Machine is another piece about technology created after I read a few lines of The Californian Ideology… it went something like, In the digital utopia, everybody will be both hip and rich.
The promises of digital technology have colonized our lives in so many ways and in such quantity they have become transparent to all but the most hardened luddites. While the promise remains unfulfilled it grows ever more complex and less static with each passing day. Many presume that the etopia is little more than vaporware. As Kazys Varnelis puts it, “The parallel electronic universe, unchained from physical structures, simply does not exist.”
And yet we persist with the belief that technology will free us from our responsibilities, that it can better us in ways we cannot fully comprehend. It is a blind belief, one that breeds complacency with the modern condition and encourages the worship of science.
